Unity Technologies has released the latest version 5.1 of its globally popular Unity Engine, with some major features for the Virtual Reality.
- Added well optimized rendering pipeline for both Virtual/Augmented Reality.
- Adds native support for Oculus-Rift Head-Mounted Display (HMD). Development Tools for Oculus Rift HMD was already added, made available for Free and Pro Versions starting from Unity 4.
- Unity itself will handle specific features of the device like applying head-tracking and an ‘appropriate field of view’ to the user’s camera.
- Other features include, preview of the new Unity Multiplayer Service, that includes matchmaking and relay servers, support for Mercurial source control in Cloud Build and over 170 bug fixes.
